In Which We Bid Farewell To an Old Friend.

A Loving Tribute to my Mazda Protege

You've taken us many places, on our Adventure Days to Exotic Locales:

Metropolis, home of Superman

Elephant Rock State Park

The World's Largest Bottle of Ketchup

The Great Godfrey Corn Maze

Ha Ha Tonka

Sedalia

Rendezvous at Fort Des Chartres

To Local Favorites:

The Drive-In for great people watching

The Pevely Flea Market to dominate Costume Contests

Grant's Farm for free beer

The liquor store when Grant's Farm was closed

Countless trips to the Zoo

We met famous celebrities

Like Popeye

And we showed Mr. Feely my bra strap.

You never complained when we added Plexiglass
(look carefully)

Or Kitty Litter

Or used you as a getaway car when we took the bamboo blinds out of some rich people's trash.

My kids grew up with you.

And while it breaks my heart to see you like this:

(especially after giving you new brakes, a new battery and new tires)

Know that I will remember the 113000 miles we drove together fondly.

As I drive around in my New (used) HONDA ODYSSEY!!!!

Yay! New car!! I've heard that owners of Oddyessys will never buy another type of minivan after owning one. Repeat buyers. Congrats woman! You deserve it!

I have an Odyssey. When we got it, my little guy called it The Oddity.

Ingenious use of plexiglass!

You touchingly sentimental fool you.
Bless.

Shit, did you turn over the title yet?

I'll trade you a yarn antenna ball for two hubcaps! Dr. MS drives a 96 Protege and I'd love to replace the hubcaps..hahahaha!

But seriously, I made a prototype for you--are you still at your old addy or moved yet? It might suck, but it fits nice on Dr. MS's Protege's antenna ;-)

Yeah, I think my mom felt the same way when our over 200,000 mile Chrysler something or other (1994 I think) finally bit the dust this last summer. I'm the youngest and getting married so I think that the "clinging to the minivan" thing is a little... late? She still says "but they're perfect for family vacations!" Btw, love your blog, seriously entertaining. Good luck with the house stuff!

I hated giving up my old faithful car, too. It still hurts, even 7 years later.

Of course, now I have a "new" old faithful car, and my kids are younger, but I still miss that little red POS that took me over half the country with few complaints and only one major breakdown.

I've never seen anyone document the life of their car! I love the pics of the kids sleeping in the backseat!

*sigh* I know we've talked about how my mind works before, but I just can't help but think that it's dangerous to show anybody with the name "Feely" your bra strap. Especially considering what is contained within that bra.
