News Flash - I don't Have a Wiener!

Dang, I didn't realize it had been so long since I last posted.

There was no Big Wiener in my weekly Simple Green Simple Question Quiz! The question was "What two non-knitting related things did I resolve to learn in 2006?" The answer was Fly Fishing and Glass Blowing, neither of which did I actually accomplish.

I did, however, manage to go to two concerts, which is one more than I went to last year. So this week's question is:

What two concerts did I attend this year?

This week's wiener will have to wait until I get home before I can mail out their fabulous prize package. The kiddos and I are leaving on Sunday for six days in San Antonio with my family, including the cousin who ratted me out to my mom about my piercings. I don't think Mom knows that I know she knows. Hell, I don't care who knows. I'll talk about them tomorrow - I have a kinda funny story to share with you.

I'm becoming more at peace with the idea of travelling with the kids. I've done it many times before and it should be easier this time. I've had the boys in the double stroller (which I had to take them out of, then collapse it and send it through the screener while hoping that little toddling Tito didn't run away), I've had Beebie and Pie walk while I pushed Tito in the umbrella stroller (which got destroyed, thank you very much, SWA), and this is the first time that I will be without a stroller AND without a diaper bag!

I'm packing each of them their own carry-on backpack full of snacks and diversions, and I'm packing myself a WIP to be determined later. I haven't started taking the meds, but I WILL be packing them. And, if you're curious, my piercings do not set off the security alarms.

I don't imagine I'll actually have much time to knit on the plane because I'll be sitting by Tito and, in all likelihood, breaking up fights between Beebie and The Pie. We'll be spending a lot of time in the car driving to my aunt and uncle's house, but I really hardly ever knit on the road. I'm too busy looking out the windows. Oooh! Something shiny!

On Monday, I'll be dropping by Yarntopia! I can't even wait. I actually held back at the Knitorious Sale this weekend (which was not easy, I'll have you know) so I could enhance my stash while I'm on vacation. I think I'm going to treat myself to a set of Denises too. Merry Christmas to me!

And, as if my Thanskgiving vacation could get better than enjoying the family discount at a yarn shop, I get to hang out with the one and only BEZZIE! I wonder if we'll be like two 8th grade geeks on a blind date. "So... you like, knit, right (insert Butthead laugh)?" The possibility exists, of course, that Bezz and I will create a swirling black hole of coolness and never be seen or heard from again.

Finally, to anyone who thinks I'm an evil, fatass bitch -

SCREW YOU! I'M GANDHI!

Commence Holiday Stress

Ok, so I've been off the meds for a while now, and I'm ((this)) close to going back on them.

I've been more stressed out lately than I have been in a long time. There are several reasons why.

1. I'm by no means a political person, but I was really stressed out about this past election. I was so stressed out about it that I didn't even vote. I felt bad about not voting, even though there was really nothing on the ballot that I felt particularly passionate about - at least not passionate enough to wait in the line with the boys for an hour and then hope they didn't start playing with the touch screens. Then I felt enormously guilty for being a shitty, uninformed, indifferent American. I know it's stupid. Sorry I didn't vote, America. I promise not to complain.

2. I've also gained weight. Halloween candy is to blame.

Oh, this is kinda funny - Tito brought me a piece of yellow Laffy Taffy and asked if he could have it. I checked the clock. It was 7am. I said no.

But mom, he said, it not candy, it just food!

Funny how they understand semantics.

3. I've also had some trouble with Beebie on the issue of lying. I found one of her school textbooks in the living room and I reminded her for several days to take it back to school. Finally on Sunday, while she and I were watching TV in my bedroom, I said, Beeb, why don't you go put that book in your bag right now before you forget. She said ok, and she got up from where she was sitting and came back a few moments later she came back and said the book was in her bag, ready to go.

Monday morning, I found the book on the floor in the living room. WHY did she lie? WHY did she make the effort to leave the room and make it look to me like she'd done it, when it would have taken maybe 3 seconds more to actually put the stupid book in the bag like she said she did?? I'm absolutely baffled by this.

Later that day, her friend's mom called to invite her over to spend the night on Friday. When Beeb got home from school, I confronted her about the book and asked her why she didn't just do it when I asked her to (she shrugged her shoulders - the response that pisses me off the most). I also told her that she'd been invited to her friend Jane's house and that if she could get through the week without missing an assignment and without any more lying, she could go. I specifically laid out the fact that if I busted her in a lie, the deal was off.

Yesterday, I picked her up at school and there was a little yellow envelope on the floor by her stuff. I knew right away was a bill from the cafeteria, as she's gotten in trouble before for charging food even after I've sent her to school with a lunch that I make her every morning. So I saw the envelope and knew what it was, and she tried to play it off like it was just lying there on the floor and it wasn't hers. So I picked it up and sure enough, it was hers, had her name on it, a charge for $2.15.

Ok, $2.15 is not a big deal, but then I asked her what the charge was for, and she said she didn't know.

I said Beeb, you need to tell me... and she just kept saying emphatically, I DON'T KNOW!!!! I HAVE NO IDEA!!!

Beeb, they don't just send home bills to kids for fun, you have no business even being in the cafeteria line, I make your lunch every day.

MOM! I SERIOUSLY DON'T KNOW!!

And I knew she was lying.

So are you saying that they sent a bill to you by mistake?

I guess...

And then I said, Well, gosh - that's odd. I guess I should call the school then and tell them that there's something wrong... Oh wait, I could go online and find out just what you charged and when.

And then she started acting like she was trying reeeeeeeeally hard to remember.

Um, I think I maybe... charged a milk a couple of times... when I drank all of my juice and I was still thirsty.

Ok, how many times?

Two, I think...

Well, how much does milk cost?

Forty-five cents.

So now I have to call Jane's mom and tell her that I busted Beeb in a stupid lie and now I can't allow her to come over. It's just so ridiculous. WHY couldn't she have just asked me to put an extra drink in her lunch? Or even just told the truth when I confronted her? "I don't know" is a WHOLE lot different from "I don't remember".

I take lying very seriously and I'm really very concerned. I talked to her about lying and truth and trust - I asked her if it was important to her to feel like she could trust people, and if it was important to her to feel like other people could trust her, and I said that every time she lies, it affects how much I trust her and it's really hard to get someone's trust back after they feel like they can't trust you anymore.

Plus I'm worried that if I call Jane's mom to bail out she'll think I'm too mean or worse - that word will get around that Beebie tells lies and then nobody's going to want to be her friend anymore.

4. And I also think it's the impending holiday season that's already wearing on me. The good news is that I don't have to spend Thanksgiving at Chez Inlaw with MIL, FIL, the Aldis and the Lexi. But the downside is that I don't get to spend it with R.

I'm taking the kids to my parent's house for a week. R has school and he couldn't get the time off work. I've travelled with the kids before, and it's just really really stressful. Anyone with kids knows that any vacation that you have to take the kids on is hardly a vacation.

Yes, the holiday stress is starting already. Ry's class is collecting shoeboxes full of little gifts and toys for Operation Christmas Child, which is due tomorrow. So today I thought I'd take the boys shopping for stuff to put in their shoebox to send to a little boy their age. I know they're little, but it bummed me out that they completely missed the point.

In the car, I tried to lay the groundwork for what we were doing. I explained that we were going to send a box of treats to a little boy who lives somewhere far away so that he'd have a gift to open on Christmas morning. And then Ry said "Yes! And then, HE will send US a gift!!"

No, I said, that's not how it works. We send a gift, that's all. He doesn't send us a gift.

"But that's not FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIR!!" the two of them screamed. Great. I was really in the mood for a "do something nice because it's a nice thing to do" lecture aimed at preschoolers. My head hurts.

So we pick out some stuff and of course the boys fight about it and then when we get back to the car Tito wants me to open one of the things we bought. No, I said, it's to send to the little boy for Christmas, remember?

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

I was completely disgusted by them at that moment. Truthfully, though, I feel like all the piles of unplayedwith toys are my fault. I blame myself for breeding ungrateful, lazy kids. And I know that they're really not bad kids and they're really not any different from any other kid out there. I really do try to not go overboard with gifts (limited finances inherently prevents me from going too crazy), and I insist that they get rid of some of the toys that they haven't played with for a long time. And yet, every year I drive myself crazy buying gifts for my kids, my nieces and nephews and my friends. Why do I do this to myself? And why do I start so early? I actually used to really like Christmas before I got married and had kids.

I'm so stressed out about this trip coming up (the actual travel part more than anything - my parents are cool) and I'm already stressing about Christmas Day at the inlaws. Already. On November 9th.

5. I hate this house and my inability to keep it clean. I hate walking out of one filthy room into another. It's depressing and it sucks every ounce of motivation I might muster up to clean it. I just want to lie in bed with my covers over my head.

Ironically, for the first time in the last ten years or so, I actually feel good about our financial situation. That stupid Farter Cable fiasco is coming off of my credit report (oh, and Farter STILL hasn't sent me a copy of the bill I've asked them for repeatedly), and my goal is to get us out of this house and under the thumb of evil Elite Property MisManagement once and for all.

6. But then, I'll have to move. Ugh.

7. Oh, and as a result of all this stress, my period was like disturbingly late last month. Yeah, that's EXACTLY the kind of stress I need.

8. And I'm really worried about poor Kevin Federline. How's he going to live and support four babies on $30,000 a month?

Yeah, that's a brief overview of the stresses I have in my life right now. If I start taking the meds now, they'll kick in right around the time I leave for our trip. I'm seriously considering it.

So anyway, I missed Blogstalking Monday and Simple Green Big Wiener Tuesday - but did I come through on WPN Wednesday or WHAT???

Our Tuesday Wiener, Domestic Overlord, knew that R and I created a holiday called Fingal Fergus Day.

Today's question is:

What were the two (non-knitting related) things I said I wanted to learn to do in 2006?

Hint: I haven't done either one of them.

Ladies' Night!

Yeah, I've been MIA for a bit, just a little stressed out, but I'll get into that later. Nothing major.

Y'all KNOW I wouldn't letcha down on WPN Wednesday! And, as promised, it time for the guys to feast their eyes!

Drink up, fellas! The more you drink, the better they look!
Until you wake up and gnaw your own arm off.

Either she's on her way to a Wet T-shirt Contest, or somebody needs to send Sweetlips here a Beige Bra.

The fact that she lists "erotica" and "sweat" among her turnons just really creeps me out.

And I didn't even touch on her passion for NASCAR.

Eeew, I just said "touch on her..." Somebody smack me.

Let's vote - is this a guy?

Liza Minelli in a fat suit.
You're welcome.

There's just not much you can do with a Mullet and a Gross Underbite.

She kinda reminds me of Chewbacca. Check it.

I guess we could say she's WOOKIE PA NUB! HAHAHAHAHA!

"Looking for some one that loves life..."

And corn dogs.

Anybody else see Dwight Shrute's little sister?

Think of the money you'd save on a big screen TV - you can project movies on her forehead!

Bonnie Tyler has not aged well.

Turn around...
Oh Dear God! Turn BACK around!!

Nuthin I can say, Total Eclipse of the Heart.

(fade to black)

Ok, you're going to have to work with me a little bit here.

Remember the line in the cartoon version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas that goes "The Grinch got a Wonderful, AWFUL Idea" ? And then he smiles an evil, toothy sneer?

Imagine Marsha in green makeup.

Or, if it's easier for you, imagine The Grinch with crimped hair.

She's "looking to meat new friends...and maybe moor on cam."

Way to give us Horny Housewives a bad name. Thanks a lot, freak.

Beverly likes Swap Meets, Garage Sales and Anal Sex.

(Are you shuddering along with me at home??)

Edit - my bad, she doesn't care for anal sex. Sorry, guys. She lists herself as a female, but I'm not 100% certain that those nasty blue pooka shells aren't hiding an Adam's apple the size of Nevada.

Oooh, I can't even WAIT to see what Google searches hit me now.

Finally, I would like to wish my beloved husband R a Happy Anniversary! With every year that goes by (this is #9), we're pretty sure somebody loses a bet.

Thank you, R, for taking me off the market. I'm so glad I don't have to compete with this bevy of beauties anymore!

The Truth About A Dare

Inspired by the Bezz, as I so often am, here is the story of a Dare that took on a life of its own.

Every Halloween for the last 14 years I have remembered this event fondly. And today, BMB faithful, I'll forsake my solemn oath to never tell this story to another living soul and share it with all of you. You might not like me anymore after hearing it, I'll just let you know. Or, if you have the same sense of humor as I do, I suppose you might like me even better. It's a gamble I'm willing to take.

I actually used to tell this story on dates occasionally as a weed-out mechanism - if somebody thought I was too mean or psychotic by the end of the story, well, then we obviously weren't meant for each other. In fact, I told it to R on our first date and he told me an equally interesting story about his own college antics, and, as they say, the rest is fairy tale history.
But enough set-up.

My junior year at college I had several classes with one of my roommates, whom I'll call Shirley. Shirley is the Absolute, Undisputed Global Master of the Mind Fuck. The Queen Mother of Fookery. She always came up with the best, most brilliant ideas for just jackin' with people for her own amusement. Usually, her victims deserved it, but not always.

I'll tell it to ya straight, she could be mean, but it was funny as long as YOU weren't the one she was fuckin with. She was definitely one of those people you'd much rather have as a friend than an enemy. I blossomed under her tutelage the way Luke Skywalker learned the Ways of The Force from Yoda the Jedi Master.

We were both English majors (don't laugh, I bet you're not doing anything with your degree either). I don't know about your school, but at my school the English majors were just below the Theatre majors in terms of the Freakshow factor. There were some real weirdos in the English Department. And one of them was in our Shakespeare class with us.

I don't know how to describe him physically other than unkempt, and freakishly hairy. He had the wildest, curliest, Slash-after-being-struck-by-lightning hair I'd ever seen. I'm going to call him Snake. He also had these swarthy mutton-chop sideburns and an earring. He experimented with the full beard and variations thereof. He was just one of those people that stand out, not necessarily in a bad way, but he just caught your eye and you couldn't help staring.

And his eyebrow - singular - I almost forgot. He had a unibrow with trajectory. Put two of your fingers together and place them on your eyebrow. That's what I'm talkin' about. Like you could hold him upside down by his feet and scrub the floor with his face. And yet, something about him was totally hot.

Shirley and I looked forward to his always-late and never-discreet arrival into our lecture room. He usually looked like he just woke up. This class was at 1:40 in the afternoon. Maybe it was his overtly lackadaisical attitude that was hot.

He never did turned in homework when the professor asked us to, never participated in the discussions, sometimes didn't show up at all. Shirley and I were mesmerized by him. And then one day, he walked in with a Fraternity Letter Sweatshirt on.

Ok, here's where I admit that I'm a sorority girl. Shut up.

It can't be much of a surprise to anyone who counts the number of times I use the word TOTALLY in everyday conversation.

Anyway, here's where I go all sorority girl snotty (and I'm not sayin' it's right):

"He was SO not what you'd think a guy from this particular fraternity (or any other fraternity) would look like. He must have been a legacy..."

Shirley and I couldn't believe it (by the way, when I said "roommate" I meant "sister"). This fraternity was known on our campus for having guys that looked like J Crew models. Snake was the complete antithesis of this stereotype. It was so unfathomable to us, that we called in witnesses (other sisters). They agreed, it seemed impossible that this guy would even be drawn to the idea of being in a fraternity, as he was so unique - unlike any fraternity guy we'd ever seen.

We lusted from afar for the first several weeks of the fall semester. And then, one day, my house had a Pledge Mom/ Pledge Daughter Pumpkin Carving Cheesy Sisterhood Bonding Event. Shirley had a Pledge Daughter named Queen LaTaTa (not to be crass, but she had absolutely enormous juggs), who was one of the sisters we had invited to check Snake out.

Long story short, the two of them decorated a pumpkin that looked exactly like Snake. Exactly.

They had cut out long strips of black construction paper of varying widths, wrapped them around pencils, and affixed a bevy of dissheveled locks to his head with straight pins. They'd also made the sideburns, the earring and the unibrow. It was a work of art. Completely creepy art.

When I saw it, I nearly peed my pants laughing. There were enough sisters who were familiar with Snake that Shirley and Queen LaTaTa's genius did not go unappreciated. We were all gathered in our little sorority house room, giggling hysterically when someone - it may have been me but I don't remember - suggested:

"Omigodyouguys... we should TOTALLY take it over to his fraternity house."

Everyone gasped giddily in sorority girl unison.

Yes, it was decided that we would take it there and leave it for him. Ideally, without being seen. I don't know how to describe how utterly impossible this idea was, but among us was a sister with a car, and that was really all we needed, other than a Designated Deliverer.

And here's the Dare part.

Guess who got the job of stealthily sauntering up to the door, opening it just wide enough to sneak the pumpkin inside, then closing the door before banging loudly on it and sprinting back to the getaway Ford Escort with nine snickering sorority girls in it?

Yeah. That was me.

I so vividly remember running back from the front door after completing my mission, down the hill, pumping my fist and whispering "GO! GO! GO!!!" to the driver of the car, and the sisters opening the back door with the car in motion and pulling me inside, across their laps. I don't know how I kept from peeing my pants. We shrieked with laughter until we ached.

Later that evening, we sat around wondering if anyone in the house had seen the Snake Pumpkin yet. I mean, there was no doubt who this pumpkin was supposed to look like. Anyone who would have found it would have known instantly it was Snake. We wanted to know if it had gotten to Snake yet.

In the days before Caller ID, it was possible for us to call the house anonymously and ask whoever answered if Snake had received any special presents today. Again, I was called upon to do the bidding of The Fookery Queen. I dialed the number, made up a silly voice and asked the pledge who answered the house phone, "Yesh, I wash wondering if Shnake recheived hish preshent?" The young man put the phone down and I tried not to break character despite being surrounded by my twittering Pumpkin-Stalker sisters.

A few moments later, I heard a man's voice say, "Hello?" I repeated my question again, and he replied, "YEAH, I GOT MY PRESENT, WHO THE FUCK IS THIS???!!?"

And that is the only time in my entire life that I've ever peed my pants from laughing so hard. (Once I laughed so hard I threw up, under a totally different set of circumstances that I don't even want to get into right now.)

But the story doesn't end here.

A few weeks later, in mid-November, we made a Pilgrim Pumpkin, just like the Original Snake Pumpkin, only with a pilgrim hat complete with a shiny silver buckle fashioned from a gum wrapper (my idea).

Again, we secretly delivered our handiwork and again we called to anonymously confirm its safe arrival. And we called a couple other times to leave silly messages on his answering machine. We would make up songs and poems and try to assure him that we weren't dangerous. I mean, despite the fact that we were obviously making fun of him, we actually did really like him and weren't out to scare him. We kinda hoped he'd be flattered by it. All the while, Shirley and I were still seeing him three times a week (and thoroughly enjoying his presence) in our class, comforted by the fact that we were 100% certain Snake had no idea who we were.

And there's still more - the week before Winter Break, we created and delivered yet another pumpkin (don't ask me where we found a pumpkin in December, but we did), this one decorated as Snake wearing an elf's hat. Again with the hair, sideburns, earring, eyebrow all the same as the first one, with the clever addition of the green hat with cotton balls at the brim and on the end.

We had such plans for Spring Semester. We were going to make a New Year's pumpkin with a party hat, a horn and confetti; a Valentine's Day Cupid pumpkin; A Leprechaun; an Easter Bunny... it would have continued until we got either busted or sick of it, and there was really no forseeable threat of either. But sadly, one January afternoon we called the house to see if we could get Snake's room number, and we were given the sad news that Snake had dropped out of school.

Now, we'll never know if it was because of the pumpkins that Snake dropped out of school, but I will say that if he put forth as much effort in his other classes as he did in our Shakespeare class, then I have no reason to blame myself. I'm pretty sure he flunked out. Still, I've often imagined what it must have felt like to Snake, a student in a university of 40,000+, coming to the realization that he was weird-looking enough for somebody to make a pumpkin that everyone could tell was supposed to be him.

In an interesting follow-up, Shirley hooked up with him at a party later that year.

Why didn't I get THAT dare??

WPN Guest Host - ALI!

And y'all thought Halloween was over...

The above photos were submitted by the one and only Ali.

I don't know where she found them, so if there's a particular gentleman you'd like to get in touch with, you're gonna have to ask her.

I'm not 100% sure whether or not they're actually single and Wookin, but I'd be willing to wager pretty much anything that they are still on the market, gals.

Here are this week's Wookers.

Yummy.

What two words first come to mind? MOVIE VILLAIN.

"My advice for keeping your house as clean as mine? Get rid of all your furniture!"

Remember the old SNL sketch with Mike Meyers as Middle Aged Man?

"ARE YOU LOOKIN AT MY GUT?? WELL, I'M WORKIN' ON IT!!!"

Could this be a Republican National Committee release of a screen capture from that circa 1979 homemade porno Senator John Kerry doesn't want us to know about?

I always feel like... somebody's watchin' meeeeeee...

Hey! How'd HE get in here??

We have standards here, Pretty Boy!

Yeah, now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about! Much better!

Jeez, I was afraid I was losing my touch.

Yeah, I know it's all guys. Sorry, straight male readers. Next time I'll feature ALL GIRLS.

Promise.

It's just that my kids wound up with a total of 20 pounds of candy (Seriously, we weighed it. I'm not exaggerating.) since Sunday and if I come across a profile for someone named Candy (which is a pretty safe bet), I think I'll puke.

And here's a question for you - I've been thinking about creating a seperate blog just for WPN Wednesdays. Would you prefer that, or do you come by for a giggle and stick around for the Potty Training Updates?

Now for the love of God, GIMME SOME CAN-DEH!!

Presenting...

THE BEZZ-O-LANTERN!!!!

Remind me to tell you guys the story of how I came to be rather adept at pumpkin decorating. I'll have to think of some clever pseudonyms to protect the innocent.

After capturing the coveted top prize at the Pevely Flea Market Costume Contest, Tito decided he wanted to be something else. So we put him in a knight costume. He wanted to keep his "fancy moustache", so he kinda looks like John Cleese as the French Castle Guard. I tried to teach him to say "I faaaaahht in your general direction!" but he just kept saying "I farted!" Not the same effect.

What he reeeeeeeeeally wanted to be this Halloween was James, from the Thomas the Tank Engine Stories. The only James costume I found was overpriced and not very cute, so I had this genius idea to get a hold of a red sweatsuit, some Thomas fabric I'd seen at Wal-Mart, and some Wonder Under so I could cut pieces of fabric and iron them on. Alone, that looked kinda stupid, so I outlined the pieces in yellow fabric paint.

The result looked, to me, like absolute shit, but guess who loved it? Voila, the hand-crafted James costume:

And it's also Big Wiener Tuesday - this week's question was "What did my dad give the African Seminary Students for Christmas?" And the answer is:

Ski masks.

That's one of my favorite stories.

Our Weekly Wiener is April!

So this week's Simple Green Simple Question is:

What is the name of the Festivus-like holiday R and I created?

It's a tough one, so I'll sweeten the pot. This week's winner will also receive an Official UPS package deliverer winter hat with earflaps. Why a UPS hat? I have no idea. It's pretty effin sweet, though. Good luck.

And finally, here's my little Halloween treat to you -

Sunday, October 29, 2006

Best in Show!

So the party at the Science Center was kindof a downer. The fun special exhibits were closed. There were about four long lines that you got to wait in to receive one piece of candy, or, alternatively, you could wait in ridiculously long lines to make a cheesy craft, like color a picture of a pumpkin or something. Yawn. We can do that crap at home.

In comparison, Halloween at the Pevely Flea Market ROCKED. We happened upon this well-kept secret of local Halloween celebrations last year and we plan to make it an annual tradition. Basically, you can walk around to the various booths that sell all kinds of kitchy, useless crap and the kids can trick-or-treat for candy. The highlight of the day is the costume contest.

By the way, here's a little tip if you're thinking of attending next year's Pevely Flea Market Halloween Soiree - it's important (and amusing) to keep in mind that not everyone who looks scary is actually in costume. Some folks I could have sworn were wearing those fake "Bubba teeth". They weren't.

Anyhoo, here are some pics of the apes' costumes.

Pie as Harry Potter (complete with scar)

Tito as a Pirate

He had a hard time holding still for the moustache-drawing part.

Beebie was a surgeon, and she got quite offended when people would ask if she was a nurse. Way to defy those stereotypes, Beeb!

This is the Mad Scientist Hospital ID badge that R made for her to wear. It says "Chief of Icky, Very Gross, Extremely Bloody Surgery". It was well-received.

Here they are on the Flea Market Carousel.

And the costume contest winners were...

Beebie and Tito!

We thought Harry Potter would surely place, but when the judges asked him to cast a spell, he crossed his arms and pouted. So Tito won in their age group, and Beebie placed third in her age group. Pie was pretty miffed until he won a door prize of two movie tickets.

He was so miffed, in fact, that he said -

"If I'm ever in a pie-eating contest, I'm just going to throw the pies at everybody else." Interesting strategy.

Oh, and by the way, I live in the most dangerous city in the US. Perhaps I should suggest to the mayor that Power Panties become part of the standard issue STLPD uniform!

Behold The Power Of Panties!

Dontcha hate it when you're right in the middle of a perfectly craptacular day and then somebody goes and does something nice and it throws off your Crabby Mojo??

Ok, I don't really hate it. In fact, I love it. I do have to point out the fact that the mail arrived within an hour of my putting on my Power Panties.

Lemme explain real quick for the non-knitters what a CASP is - on the Knittyboards we play Secret Pal where you get assigned a person to whom you are supposed to send yarn and other knitting-related (and non-related) stuff. CASP stands for Cheap Ass Secret Pal. It's the same Secret Pal concept only without the usual spending minimum. It's great. It challenges the participants creatively. Brilliant.

Anyway, so today I got not one but TWO packages from CASP's! Right in the middle of my yucktastic day. Right after I put on my extra-special drawers.

These goodies came from my CASP 3 Parsimonious Pal:

There are Halloween window clings, stickers, three little flashlights for the apes,
candy (not pictured - guess why?), cocoa mix, the book Confessions of a Slacker Mom (ha!), and PENNY KARMA CRACK - Werther's Chewy Caramels!

And these goodies came from my CASP 2, Cheapy Sheepy By The Sea:

A needle bag with Addi DPN's, Opal sock yarn and a pattern, Rowan Summer Tweed (I love this color), a crochet magazine, great Rowan patterns...

And a lil sumthin sumthin for each of the apes (which they LOVED)!

Nacho says, "Muchissimas gracias!"

Not much TV to talk about this week. Must See TV Thursday was all repeats because of this little thing called the World Series... I'm not going to talk about it until it's over because the Cardinals have a history of choking when they have a 3 games to 1 lead.

Jerry Springer is FINALLY off of Dancing with the Stars, and this week Peter and Sarah were eliminated from the Race (ugh, that Peter!). And Brooke was eliminated on ANTM. I missed it last week, so if I'm way off for asking this, I'm sorry, but - What is Jaeda still doing there?

As far as a weekend preview - tomorrow we're going to a Halloween Party at the Science Center. Should be good.

Just Minor Craziness. And a Tiny Hint of Complete and Utter Mayhem.

Despite this blog's sensationalized evidence to the contrary, my life is actually pretty boring most of the time.

Yesterday, however, I became totally convinced that the first sound I hear in the morning is like a crystal ball prediction for the quality of my day. How I long for my wake-up sound to be the actual alarm clock (set for 6:15)!

I awoke at about 4:30am to the tell-tale sound of the laundry chute door snapping shut. I've become very familiar with this sound recently. It invariably means that someone has peed in his bed and he's trying to hide the evidence. Someone named TITO.

Great.

So I get up and confront him and I make him help me strip the bed, and wipe him down and find him some clothes rather than put a new pair of pajamas on him. Then, since he's dressed, he figures it's breakfast time. No, I said, you come lay down with me in my bed. I have a long day ahead of me and I need a little more sleep.

He wants chocolate milk. Fine. Grrrrrrrr.

An hour later, he gets up to poop. YAY! As I'm giggling at his overly-thatrical poop-grunts (think of a James Brown record being played at a really slow speed), he calls me in to wipe him, and I notice that the flushable wipes are all gone. Those things are so darn convenient. But paper'll do in a pinch. Whatever.

Wednesday is usually R's day off. This week, however, he has some kind of training for work, which means, this week only, he works 8-5 Monday through Friday and he's off on Saturday. Let me say this again for emphasis.

R'S OFF THIS SATURDAY. For the first time in YEARS.

Here's the downside. That means he has to work on his regular day off.

Had I known he'd be working yesterday, I certainly would not have scheduled Pie's Aquatherapy, Beeb's Parent-Teacher Conference, and my Pilates Class for that day.

So, as I mentioned, the day started out rough, and I knew it was only going to get worse.

I dropped the boys off at 9ish and drove to Garden Ridge to look for some silly party decorations and prizes to send to my mom for her birthday. Last year I sent a Party In A Box (huge box of hats, balloons, streamers, games and prizes) and my sister made all of it into a fun party that my mom really enjoyed, so I thought I'd do it again.

Her birthday is Sunday, and if I didn't get the package in the mail Wednesday, it might not get there in time. So I had to squeeze a trip to the Post Office into an already overbooked day.

I found lots of silly little things and miraculously got them to fit in a box which I taped securely and put in the car so I could run by the Post Office after I pick up the boys (since now I don't have time to go there before I pick them up).

Pickup went fine, only they're both whining that they're starving. They don't stay for lunch at their school anymore. It's ok, guys, I tell them, we'll hurry and be home for lunch in just a few minutes. Famous last words.

Tito loves to press buttons. So I had to start over at the little Automatic Package Mailing Machine about three times. I shoulda just waited in the line, only the last time I waited in the line, he pulled the rope-gate thing over (after I'd told him about twelve times to stop touching it) with a thundering CLANG and I was completely mortified by the fact that my children obviously never listen to me.

While I'm mailing the package, I get not one, but two calls on my cell phone. From people I don't talk to every day - my friend Canadian Eric and Ry's former Aquatherapist who I haven't talked to in months. Amazing.

So $12 later, the package is on its merry way to San Antonio and I am on my way to my next stop: Target. To buy more flushable wipes. Oh, and the Nacho Libre DVD with the free mask inside (RIGHTEOUS!!!!). And candy. And pencils. And oh shit, suddenly it's 1:30. And crap, I forgot to buy milk.

Next stop is home. Lunchtime. Sandwiches take up the last of the bread. I see a Grocery Store stop in my immediate future.

After lunch, it's 2:30, time for Ry's Aquatherapy. I don't think I've talked about it much on here, but Ry was born with a very rare birth defect called Triad (or "Prune Belly") Syndrome. One of these days I'll tell the whole story of Ry's long-awaited entrance into the world, but the day-to-day reality of it is that his case is so incredibly mild compared to the worst-case scenarios that if you didn't know there was something wrong with him, you wouldn't know, other than his big ol' belly. Sorry for the tangent, but anyway, that's why he goes to Aquatherapy - to build his tummy muscles.

His therapist is late, so she runs a few minutes over to make up for it. We leave at 3:20. Beeb's bus arrives at 3:25, and her conference is at 3:45.

I haven't eaten anything all day.

The boys and I get home, Beeb gets home, I grab some snacks for everyone and we head to Beeb's school for conferences. All A's and B's. She needs to turn her work in on time. Overall, a very good report. Yay, Beeb.

Next comes the Unscheduled but Suddenly Necessary Pit Stop at the Grocery Store. Just milk and bread this time. And jelly. And frozen pizzas. And ice cream. And oh shit, it's 4:30 and my Pilates Class is at 5:15. And I forgot to buy brown mustard.

I should mention that I missed the first class last week because I was out Schmoozing with FIL and the Symphony - at the free event that cost me almost $50 in babysitting costs. The Aldis saved their money and brought 1 1/2 year old Aldiboy, who ran through the aisles chased by The Reverend. That was almost worth the price of admission right there. Almost.

Home for a quick dinner. I have to apologize profusely to the kids that there isn't time to make the frozen pizza - even though, as they quite vocally reminded me, I had bought it with the intention of making it for dinner - so we'll have to have something fast. I put Beeb in charge of dinner while I put on my Pilates Attire and dusted off my mat. She made hot dogs, or more accurately, pools of ketchup with a side order of hot dog.

Got everyone fed and in the car, and headed to Pilates (the same building where Ry had had his Aquatherapy earlier). Dropped the kids off with the babysitter and sheepishly walked into the classroom. I was afraid I'd be intimidated and completely out of my element, but this class was the best part of my day. The instructor was awesome and I really enjoyed the class. So I think I'll stick with Pilates and Bellydancing for now. Aerobics can kiss my jiggly white ass.

So I survived the craziest day in recent memory, and after I picked up the kids all I could think about was having a bowl of soup and watching Jeff "Soup" Suppan shut down the Tigers in Game Four. Sigh, rained out. So I watched 30 Rock - if you haven't seen this show, kids, it's great. I'm waiting for the repeat of ANTM on Sunday.

And then I put on my damn jammies, knowing that I could stay in them as long as I wanted the next morning.

Now, the only thing crazier than a crazy day at Chez Karma is the day AFTER the crazy day, when I have to cram in all the things I should have done yesterday but didn't have time. Like laundry. There's a freakin metric ton of laundry in my basement, but it's been raining for two days now and I'm afraid to go down there.

I got to sleep in till 6 today. BLISS! And remember how yesterday I woke up to the sound of the laundry chute?

Today it was the sound of glass breaking. Beeb broke the glass teapot. Sigh.

UPDATE: About thirty seconds after I posted, I went into the bathroom to retrieve the empty toilet paper roll per Ryan's repeated request (so he can watch for Pirates) and found a puddle of pee on the floor. Apparently, someone peed in his little potty seat and subsequently knocked it over. Lovely.

Once again, we see the direct relationship between the first sound I hear in the morning and the quality of the rest of my day.

To summarize, that's "Wake up to crap, you get crap all day." It's 11:00am now. Is it too late to go back to bed?

Oh, I almost forgot the kicker - all three Apes are home from school tomorrow.

UPDATE #2 (12:30pm):

Yes, these are Tito's grape jelly handprints on Ryan's back.

I predict several more updates as the day progresses. I took a shower and put on my KMA Power Panties.

Check back periodically.

WPN X

This is the tenth installment of what has come to be known as Wookin Pa Nub Wednesday! Can ya believe? This calls for a CELEBRATION!!! Cake! Candles!

Men in tight pants!!!

Par-TAAAAAAY!!!!

Wutthe?

Who the fuck invited this guy?

BOO!
Note: I did not edit this pic in any way.

This guy's user id is nymphohunter and his headline is "Youngest Grandpa In Town". The fact that he looks like a White Trash Ron Burgundy is just a yummy little bonus.

Even better! White Trash Ron Burgundy's DAD!

Ok, this picture absolutely haunted me. Could this be the photo he submitted for the National Registry of Serial Killers?

His user id suggests that he is "easy on the eyes", but maybe that just means he blindfolds you reeeeeally gently... before feeding your feengerteeps to the wolverines.

There's SO much going on here, I don't even know where to begin. I'm particularly intrigued by the setting. Is this a place of business? I sure the hell hope not. And what happened to his other nipple?

'Scuse me while I whip this out!

Oh, snap - that's his THUMB.

Ok, here's what this guy's pic looked like. So I did him (and you) the courtesy of lightening it up a bit. Stand by...

This gentleman has furnished his underground bunker with 101 Dalmatians sheets.

Girls, this is pretty much the Queen Mother of all Red Flags.

Your turn, guys! We have a luscious crop of ladies today!

Taking the place of the Scrunchie on the "Things You Shouldn't Wear If You're Over A Certain Age" List - ANYTHING WITH THE WORDS "BABY GIRL" ON IT.

And taking the place of Anything with the Words "Baby Girl" on it on the "Things You Shouldn't Wear If You're Over A Certain Age" List -
Fishnet.

Same gal.

P.S. She's 60.

Anne here is also 60. I appreciate that she's considerably more modest than Miss Thang up there, but someone needs to tell her that Tweety Bird is also pretty high up on the aforementioned List.

Oh, Honey. No. Just no.

This is officially the WORST dye job I've ever seen.

Notice how close her bangs are to the ceiling.

Oh, Dear God In Heaven, AGAIN with the fishnet!

Ironically, the fishnet is the least objectionable item in this picture.
