Speed and Penny Make a Porno.
No, not really, but I have seen his new Speed Racer sheets up close in person.
So I've been fighting a nasty cold, which, historically, is probably really Strep, again. In fact, get this - I took myself to Urgent Care the other day because the last time I was there for Strep (Valentine's Day, remember?) . . .
By the way, does it count as Dropping Major Coin on me that night if it comes out of your Flex Spending Account?
. . . they suggested I come back after I had finished all of my antibiotics to get swabbed again and make sure the Strep was gone.
Every time I've gone in to Urgent Care, they've swabbed me twice - one quick test where they give you the quick results in about 10 minutes, which may or may not be accurate (case in point, last time I was there the quick screen was negative), and then they send the other swab to...
(insert thunderclap, flash of lightning and evil laughter)
THE LAB.
They told me the office was completely out of the quick-screen Strep tests. I feel partially responsible, as I've certainly used up more than my fair share. Anyway, they've sent my deepest throat cells to THE LAB. We should hear back the results by Monday. Just in time for Spring Break. That's my life in a nutshell, folks.
Yesterday I watched Zack and Miri Make a Porno (hence the cryptic title) and, let me just explain something to the Muggles - Knitters watch movies through different eyes. We zoom in on the handknits. We can't help it. Anyone who's seen a movie with me in the past 5 years has probably witnessed this phenomenon.
Strictly from a Knitter's perspective, Zack and Miri was brilliant. An extravaganza of knitted items that I could probably actually make (i.e. mostly scarves). Behold -
Poncho with flowers
Ooooh, I loved this, she's about to walk into the door of her apartment and there are like five scarves hanging up.
Pretty sure that hat is felted wool.
I totally loved this movie.
Hand knits, foul language and full frontal male nudity.
These are a few of my favorite things.

I was wondering what all those red lights were...
As if I didn't smile enough when I put on my very own hand knitted Penny Karma Original hat as it was...
So lets review...
Hand knits - check.
Foul Language - Fuck yeah, we've got that
Full frontal male nudity - eh, I'll leave that to your imagination. :)
Speed "evidently a movie star" Racer
We have a copy here (Thank you, Netflix...), but haven't watched it yet. My brother told me I had to watch it - not because of the male nudity or the knitwear, but because it is set and partially filmed in an area of Pittsburgh right near where we grew up. I think he said they filmed at the Monroeville Mall, where I worked for several summers and Christmases in college.
Oh, and if you want swearing and nudity, go see Watchmen. It's f'ing brilliant. Plus, there is a blue wang visible for a surprising amount of the movie.
That's awesome. I totally do the same thing. My question is: do you always watch movies with the subtitles on, or did you do that for our benefit?
I always have the captions on, it just turned out to be funny for the pictures. I started watching TV with the captions on when I had two babies in 10.5 months and one, the other, or both were usually screaming so loud I couldn't hear the TV.
It was out of necessity then, and now I'm just used to it. When I go to movies, it feels weird not to see the captions at the bottom.
Repress it all you want, but the Knit Nerd always comes out when we see a movie: "Is that a HANDKNIT?? LOOKIT! She's wearing a knitted HAT!"
And it's worse if the movie shows someone knitting...I gripe in a sour voice, "She's not REALLY knitting...I call shenanigans!"
And it's usually after about three or four times my husband throws a handful of popcorn at me and tells me to get a grip or there'll be no lovin' tonight.
Come to think of it, I do a lot of subtitle watchin' these days, too. Usually it's because Peanut is finally - thank gourds - asleep, and I want her to stay that way, so I have the volume turned waaay down.
We watched Zack and Miri last night after reading this post, btw. Loved it!
Well, I felt very special being able to watch "Zach and Miri" while wearing my "Penny Karma original" toe cozy!!! Thanks for keeping my poor broken tootsie warm!
So RevDev gave me her Netflixed copt of Z&M to watch before mailing back...
A few thoughts...
MY hand knit hat is WAY fucking cooler than the ones in the movie.
A bit of warning about the cure for constipation presented in the movie would have been nice. That's all I'm saying. I laughed so hard I almost cried.
I'll be buying the movie this week.
And the Dutch Rudder Wow, Just Wow. Might have to try that today.
Speed Racer
It is just wrong that I haven't seen this movie yet. I'm going to go out and get it TO-day.
